Wales Act

Wales Act
(1998)
Following the referendum of September 1997 which narrowly approved the Blair Government’s devolution proposals, the Wales Act established the Welsh National Assembly in 1999. It transferred most of the rights, powers and duties of the Welsh Secretary to the new 60-member body which has delegated many of its executive Powers to nine cabinet ministers – headed by a First Minister – who together form the Welsh Assembly government.
